Tree pruning is necessary to maintain the health
of your trees. You must know where, when, how and why the pruning is
to be done. When properly done a variety of benefits can occur. These
benefits include reducing risks of falling branches, stem failure, better
clearance for vehicles and pedestrians, improved turf conditions, better
health and appearance of your trees. When trees are improperly pruned
the tree's health is compromised, appearance is damaged, the tree's
stability could be a concern. The damage could take years to fix or
the tree has to be removed to reduce any liability.
You should prune trees at least once every year. There are several consequences
of not having a regular maintenance pruning program.
These include:
1. Increased risk of branch and stem failure.
2. Development of unwanted low limbs.
3. Possible formation of co-dominant stems.
4. Increase in defects and dead branches.
5. Obstructed views.
