A few years ago, the retail nursery industry adopted the slogan, “Fall is for Planting”. Autumn is the best time of the year to plant trees and shrubs for the following reasons:

• Temperatures stay mild most of the time and generally rainfall is adequate for root development.
• Shrubs and trees planted early in the Fall tend to establish a generous root system which will make the plant hardier through the winter months and will support Spring growth.
• Garden Centers Generally have good sales during the Fall season. They have great selections in Fall colors that may be used for decoration during Halloween and Thanksgiving!
• Besides being great for planting, fall weather is great for working outside.
